Dear Hilda,
I hope that this reaches you in time to wish you many Happy Returns of The Day. Aunt Emmie told me the date of your birthday, I hope that this isn't a personal question, but, how old are you?
I am sorry to say that I am still in hospital, & since I wrote to you last I had an operation. I will be going home about June, (next month). Enclosed are two photo's, one of my Mum, Dad, & me, & the other one is on a bed with some other girls, I have marked myself.
Please could you send me some snaps of you. Could you show my snaps to "Eileen". I am sending "Eileen" a photo when she writes to me, she hasen't written to me for a long time.
I am sorry to say that I must close, until I hear from you next time,
Cheerio & Love from
Phyllis
(PS) Give my best respects to all Please.
(PSS) Is Robert going to write to Barbara? I suppose that I shall get a letter from you, before you get this me. XXXXXX

Dear Cousin Hilda,
I am very sorry for not writing sooner. I am writing this letter at home, its like heaven to be home once again, you've no idea.
How is Uncle Ben & Robert fine I hope & yourself? I suppose that by now you have got those snaps of me & the Birthday card, My aunt Emmie told me the wrong date of your birthday.
Is Eileen Morris on a big trip, as I haven't heard from her for a very long time? Isen't it terrible, we are even being rationed for bread over here now, goodness knows what next they are going to ration. Even soap is rationed over here.
You asked me if I danced or sing, well I sing a little. Thanks very much for the maps. We have got a few new stamps out in England now, one of them is on this envelope, I suppose you noticed it when you got it. Aunt Emmie is on her holiday's at present, she has gone to Yarmouth with her mother (my grandmother) for a fortnight.
Now I am home I have lots of letters to write to many of the girls in Hospital, & when I was in hospital I had letters to write to my parents & friends & aunts etc. etc.
Well I suppose like a door I must close. Hoping you are all well
Love Phyllis
P.S. Write Soon XXXXX
NOTES: I think she was referencing an "Eileen Morris" could be "Irene." The stamp referenced in the June letter was cut off the envelope. When my grandmother passed away in 1984, my father let one of our cousins remove stamps from a number of these letters. I'm guessing it was the 1946 Commemorative Victory Stamp seen below.
ACCURACY NOTE: All letters are transcribed as written. Mistakes, missing punctuation, absence of paragraph breaks, run on sentences and such are left true to the original author's penmanship.
